Neeraj Chopra has once again lifted the nation’s spirit. At the prestigious Golden Spike meet, Neeraj Chopra delivered another stellar performance, clinching the javelin throw title with an 85.29 m throw—his season’s best and the only throw of the night to cross the 85 m mark.
But, it’s not just the distance that defines Neeraj—it’s the relentless discipline, precision in preparation, and commitment to every aspect of his training that fuel such consistent world-class performances wherever he competes.
In late 2024, Neeraj started training with the javelin legend Jan Železný, the world record holder himself. Under Železný’s mentorship, Neeraj began fine-tuning crucial elements like the trajectory of release, body alignment, and block leg strength—all with the aim of achieving more controlled and explosive throws. Instead of daily, intensive oversight, the focus shifted to smart, focused coaching supported by biomechanics specialists and strength experts.
Before working with Železný, Neeraj trained under Dr. Klaus Bartonietz, whose system revolved around two daily sessions lasting 2–2½ hours each.
These sessions blended:
Sprinting and long jump drills for speed
Javelin throwing practice
Strength training and Olympic lifts for power
Neeraj’s gym workouts are tailored for total-body power and mobility. His go-to moves include:
Squats, snatches, weighted lunges
Cable pulls and medicine-ball throws
Swiss-ball core exercises and oblique crunches
He supplements these with Tabata-style bodyweight circuits and HIIT sessions, building stamina and sharp bursts of strength—both essential for javelin throws.
Neeraj’s training spans 7–8 hours a day—but it’s supported by thoughtful lifestyle choices:
1. Nutrition: High-protein meals—grilled chicken, pulses, rice, vegetables, coconut water in the morning.
2. Recovery: Full nights of sleep, light dinners (soups, fruits), and occasional traditional treats like churma from Haryana.
3. Focus: He often trains abroad (South Africa, Europe) to maintain focus, limit distractions, and prioritize performance over pressure.
